Update from the Chairman's desk:
PLL statistical test results for Jack Russell Terriers through January 12, 2010.
We’ve tested a total of 995 JRT’s; 694 tested NORMAL, 250 tested CARRIER/LOW RISK, 51 tested AFFECTED/HIGH RISK.
The RF thanks the University of Missouri for their generous gift to our members. The discounted test fee was offered as a thank you to those who had blood stored in the RF DNA Bank; this blood was used for the research that led to the PLL breakthrough. Through negotiations the RF was able to secure two extensions of the deadline date, allowing those who had not yet deposited their terrier’s blood to take advantage of the discounted offer.
The discount ended January 1; however, the $65 cheek swab test being offered through OFA is very reasonable, as some genetic tests are double that price. The test will continue to be offered on blood already deposited into the DNA Bank at the increased cost of $65, just fill out the PLL request form and mail with funds to UMO for results.
You can also request PLL results from new blood deposits, either by your vet or at an upcoming DNA Clinic, remember your participation supports future research, such as the cataract experiment now being looked at UMO.
