Update from the Chairman's desk:
PLL statistical test results for Jack Russell Terriers through January 12, 2010.

We’ve tested a total of 995 JRT’s; 694 tested NORMAL, 250 tested CARRIER/LOW RISK, 51 tested AFFECTED/HIGH RISK.

The RF thanks the University of Missouri for their generous gift to our members. The discounted test fee was offered as a thank you to those who had blood stored in the RF DNA Bank; this blood was used for the research that led to the PLL breakthrough. Through negotiations the RF was able to secure two extensions of the deadline date, allowing those who had not yet deposited their terrier’s blood to take advantage of the discounted offer....Continued here

All breeds of dogs seem to have their own particular set of faults and inherited defects and the Jack Russell Terrier is no exception. Although the Jack Russell has not been overrun with problems, as the popularity of the breed grows, so will the defects. Through public education our goal is to minimize hereditary disorders to the Jack Russell Terrier resulting from misbreeding.

In 1997, the Jack Russell Research Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit organization. With support provided by the JRTCA, Jack Russell owners concerned about the genetic health of the terrier formed the Foundation. See: The Formation of the JRTRF

The Jack Russell Research Foundation will encourage, promote and support the development and/or maintenance of research related to genetic defects found in the Jack Russell Terrier by, among other means, making gifts or grants to other Section 501(c)(3) organizations engaged in such research.
